BeSo (Betty Southerland, 1970 Fairbanks, Alaska) is a rebelliously-human artist who makes paintings, drawings, sculpture and mixed-media works exploring the human experience.
Mostly self-taught, BeSo has enjoyed a fulfilling 28-year career in Graphic Design while independently studying and practicing art.
In 2014, she began practicing and studying realism and creating work as an emerging artist while continuing graphic design for a nonprofit organization. She is a Saatchi contributor who has been published (500 Tangled Artworks) and continues to paint live and show her work in and around Dallas, Texas. Recently, she was honored to be interviewed for an upcoming documentary film, Last Look at Eden which explores art in conservation. Her work also appeared at ADC Miami in 2014 via Hungry Castle/Laser Cat.
BeSo is a portrait artist and conceptual thinker. Her work sometimes includes hidden surprises that encourage the viewer to interact with the art.
Using a variety of creative thought processes with a bit of ridiculousness and truth, she attempts to engage the viewer with art.
"I just do what I want and study what happens. I like to make a little mischief and believe in the powerful relationship between artist and viewer, both offering insight and creative possibilities."
BeSo currently lives and works near Dallas, Texas.
